JO's Notes

  • Jo’s website chronicles the highlights of the past forty five plus years of my work life. It tells the story of a young man from humble beginnings who stumbled on this path and pursued it passionately. It is a celebration of success and of a lifemark on a journey that is strengthened by resolve.
  • I mark this lifemark with the launch of the Jaiye Ojo website. I dedicate this to the glory of God and with gratitude and respect to my parents –Grace Modupe and William Rufus Olatunji Ojo (Rev. Dr).
  • I appreciate two other women in my life: my sister – Oluwakemi Kofoworola and my darling wife - Adebola Oludayo. Thank you for your love and support over the years.
  • As a baby in the crib, my mother will change the illustrations hung in my crib everyday. So early in life, I fell in love with colours as I accompanied mum to her teaching job in school.
  • My first public performance came as early as age 3, when I asked to conduct the children’s choir at the First Baptist Church, Jos, Plateau State, where my father was the Head Pastor in the early 60’s. I had to mount a stool each time we performed at Sunday service because I was that short!
  • All through primary and secondary schools, somehow I was always involved in drama, entertainment and drawing. I was a natural cast for key roles.
  • My first vacation job (after secondary school), was in the Graphics Department of the 'Nigerian Herald' groups of newspapers at Ilorin, in 1973, as a 'Crest Designer'.
  • Forty five years plus of a career, against the canvass of my humble but rich beginnings. I am blessed to know God and to be under His divine guidance.
  • Everything I touched in forty five years has not only been successful but remarkable. Across all media. String of commendations and awards. Across different industries and disciplines, playing different roles, multitasking.
  • My first effort at entrepreneurship was manufacturing wooden toys and decors at age 20.
  • I have been opportuned to work extensively on commercial advertising as well. Creating exciting, impactful advertising messages and campaigns over the years, PREX Advertising has worked creditably on the following accounts (amongst others): Numerique Computers, Academy Press, Germaine Auto and Health Centre, Fountain Trust Bank, Van Vliet, Chris Ejik, Wemy Industries, Resort Mortgage, Nigerian Distilleries, Overland Airways, Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International, Winners’ Business Fellowship.
  • I am priviledged to have worked with a bunch of young, brilliant, resourceful and experienced professionals from a diversified disciplinary background over the years. They still keep coming! I am proud of the great progress most of them have made since.
  • Under my presidency of Independent TV Producers Association of Nigeria (ITPAN), we struck a working relationship with MNet that gave us the opportunity to send a select team of thirty TV professionals from the membership of ITPAN to South Africa on a thirty day under study tour. This select team formed the nucleus of the crew that executed TINSEL. The whole idea was for ITPAN to help set new quality standards of a daily soap opera production in Nigeria. I am glad we delivered that with TINSEL.
  • 'FAMILY LINE' - an NTA National programme, sponsored by Food Specialities, which ran for many years. It was scripted all through by Jaiye Ojo.
  • The future of the black race lies in the investments we make in our children and youths. The problems are numerous – of leadership and followership. It calls for some new, innovative interventions that take advantage of media and technology.
  • There’s something exciting to me about abstracts art. It’s the freedom to express myself artistically. It calls for meditations and soberness. The end products lend themselves to limitless interpretations.
  • Aside abstract drawing, I also enjoy graphics. And doodling. All the drawings and photographs exhibited on this website were accomplished on my iPad.
  • The next phase for me now is working on legacy projects i.e. Bright and Morning Star Comic range and line extensions, SPR, GREAT, and PASSWORLD. These are global media brands targeted at families, youth and children in Nigeria, Africa and around the world.
  • I am presently also engaged in media projects that are technology focused and others that are technology driven
  • I am trying my hands presently on farming on the side. Snail Farming.
